Screen time potentially to blame for Functional Disconnection Syndrome in children

A growing number of children are mistakenly diagnosed with Functional Disconnection Syndrome (FDS) such as ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. In many cases, they are also given medication such as Ritalin and Concerta.

“Before parents accept the diagnosis and regulate their children’s behaviour with medication, they must get a second opinion. Let an expert assess how much time your kids spend on technology and in front of screens and then decide on an appropriate course of action,” says Dr Marlena Kruger, CEO and founder of MindUnique Education and TechnoLife Wise Foundation, and a technology addiction and integrated health and wellbeing expert.

“If children don’t run, play bare feet, kick and throw balls, jump, skip, climb trees and ride bicycles, there’s no synergy between body and brain and they don’t develop in a natural and healthy, human way. The result is all kinds of disorders, including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Tourette syndrome, and dyslexia.”

At the Technolife Institute in Linden, Johannesburg, which was launched recently, Kruger offers services such as consultations with parents and children about technology addiction, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning, health and wellness challenges, health and balance assessments by doing quantum full-body scans, brain and body integration therapy for balance and synergy, Rife therapy sessions and measuring of radiation exposure.

Kruger was recently named Business Woman of the Year 2019 by Global Women of Purpose, an international forum for businesswomen from all walks of life. She is also one of the finalists in the Education category of the sixth Woman of Stature Awards, of which the winners will be announced in March next year.
